SUPPORT SYSTEMS ARE A NECESSITY
Before exploring any kind of healing modality, method, or treatment, it is advised to
always use the support of a highly skilled professional
Ideally, a licensed and/or certified professional with a great reputation.

I get it, there are really sh*tty and even harmful therapists, doctors, and "healers" out there. I have suffered from that myself. And getting highly skilled support can be a financial nightmare. But there is a way!

-
there are excellent therapists and highly skilled professionals that do offer sliding scale and will work with you

-
support is a NECESSITY. Just like venturing into the woods alone is not a good idea for many reasons, the healing process is made to be done with community support. And if you can't find the right professional help for whatever reason, recruit the presence, help, and support of trusted and safe friends and family.

-
there are many great support groups available free of charge/donation based. I've had some incredible experiences in support groups.
BE AWARE OF SCAMMERS AND AI
Knowing you're talking to a real person is getting trickier and trickier. Social media is full of fake accounts, spam bots, and snake oil. And their ability to "blend in" and seem real are becoming more and more advanced.

Be skeptical and question everything.
You can try new healing modalities with a curious and open mind while also using a healthy dose of skepticism and questioning during the process.
HIGHER RISK MODALITIES
Healing any form of trauma can be a challenging and scary process. This is why professional support is so important.
Too much, too fast can and does happen in clinical, holistic, and spiritual settings. The good news is that mental breakdowns and psychosis can be temporary, there are supportive therapists and organizations who specialize in helping people recover, and there's A LOT you can do to prioritize your safety.

Some high-risk healing modalities are:
- Breathwork that involves hyperventilation or hypoventilation such as holotropic breathwork
- Meditation that involves intense/obsessive focus, advanced techniques, and/or done for long periods of time. Psychosis related to meditation is mostly related to meditation retreats
This article addresses the onset of psychosis after meditation here
and please check out the meditation mini guide here
-Psychoactive substances. This can include everything from caffeine in cacao ceremonies to ketamine therapy, psilocybin (magic mushrooms), LSD, MDMA, Ayahuasca etc.
